This is one of my favorite Foo Fighters songs. The palm muting pattern will take a little work–be meticulous and focus on getting the mutes and open strums separated. Keep your hand as loose as you can while keeping good time. Don’t play with too much gain right away (it will hide your mistakes and that’s no good.) Don’t forget to grow a beard too…

Drop D tuning:

5A
4D
3G
2B
1E

It’s easy to tune into Drop D.  The only string you are changing is your low E–try tuning it down to the open D string.
