Palm Muting Exercises #1 PDF
Ok, so once you’ve explored the palm mute you’re going to want a little bit to chew on. Here are some nice metal-based rhythms to start tackling. Pay very close attention to the picking direction on each example and play them slowly at first. Don’t speed up until you’re confident that you have each example correct. Once things are moving along on an example try and relax the hand as much as possible and tune in to the ‘feel’ of it. Ask yourself: How does the string respond to your picking? Are you playing the down-picks harder than the ups? Are the up-picks harder to do? Is your pick getting caught on the string on the up-pick? Could you play the example for a long time without tiring or do you feel the burn already? I know that a lot of my students aren’t the best readers of rhythm (this is ok, don’t worry) so a large part of this lesson is watching the video closely and then going back through each example slowly to make sure it’s correct. I’m glad you all made it this far because this is just the beginning of the fun. NOW WE ROCK!
